Rear Sway Bar
[Rio 1 gen]
$199.00
by Jeffrey Burtch Date Added: Tuesday 15 January, 2008
First the shipping. Good price, albeit a TAD bit slow. It's because UPS missed the pickup though, so it's all good. The box it came in was tattered though...really poorly packaged. I'm assuming that's because it's come from Australia to the US then to me...but I'm guessing that may be why there was another problem...

...which is, when I got the bar, I was missing many of the installation pieces. About half of the nuts were missing and there was only one washer that didn't seem to actually fit on anything in the box, so I'm not sure what it was for...hahaha...but nothing a quick trip to Home Depot didn't solve. But, that was a hassle. I'm assuming that maybe these parts fell out of the box during shipping...because the bag holding them was ripped open and as I've already stated, the box was annihilated.

The install was pretty straight forward. I used the jack on one side of the car and then didn't have to use it again on the other. I was able to get the whole project done with just the one side of the car up in the air. A 14mm socket and a long extension for the 3/8 drive was pretty much the only thing needed for the first half of the project. I took the brackets off of the control arm and installed the new brackets for the sway bar with the bushings already installed on them. Took about 10 minutes. Then I hooked the sway bar up to the bushings. Took about 5 minutes. Then I used the U-bolts to put the bar together with the axle. Took about 10 minutes. All told, the project probably would have only taken about 30 minutes if I didn't have to run to Home Depot in the middle of it...not to mention, I broke my long extension for the ratchet and had to go get another of those.

The bar looks pretty nice under there. It's something that you don't see on hardly any cars...let alone any Rios. It's rather heavy, and I'm assuming that's why...

...it works like a charm. I noticed immediately that the car was tracking more confidently. It seems to feel more like a RWD car than any FWD car I've ever driven now. It can handle some corners a bit faster than before as well, but I wasn't pushing it due to the snowy conditions. As soon as the snow is all off the roads, I'll go out and put it to some limits.

All in all, I'd say it's an excellent product. Easy to install, makes a huge difference, and makes the car VERY unique.

Thanks KFX. Keep up the good work!!!
